You can then decide if $3,500 is a reasonable price for the extended coverage offered.Īs for the car itself, the Gen 2 Volt is Chevy’s version of a plug-in gas hybrid, with a battery large enough to provide ~53 miles of all-electric range. That page will list the expiration and active status of any applicable GM warranties (with 90K miles on the car, it’s likely the Voltec warranty will be the only one still active for another 10K miles), and will also note if this Volt qualifies for CARB coverage, i.e., has PZEV warranty coverage to extend the Voltec-system related coverage beyond the current 8 yr/100K limit, if you will be registering and using this Volt in a state requiring CARB warranty coverage. Perhaps this dealer’s service department can access the Warranty page for the VIN number of the Volt you are considering. Do note that the original GM powertrain warranty extends to 8 years or 100k miles. I would recommend a warranty if it covered important Voltec parts. You could probably run this car for 5, 6, 7 years before any major problems crop up. A Volt with 90k is likely well-depreciated but has plenty of life left in it. With all Volts, there are a couple weak spots including EGR valves and BECMs but, once sorted, the platform is brilliant. I would definitely go for the Premier, which is chock-full of great features. It's comfortable, fun-to-drive, and damn cheap to run. I don't think the Volt is a bad car for a high-mileage application. We expect this car to hit 150k, but, as my father says, anything over 100k on a GM product is 'gravy'. I expect the car to hit 90k in about 2 months, which would mean about 21k over the last 12 months. I got the car in April of 2021 with 68,900mi and just last night I passed 87,000. My sister, who is much less of a "driver" and kept the Volt mostly around town, had it for a number of months while she was between cars. For the first three years of ownership, my father averaged about 20k miles per annum.
